Passing of Earl Tieppo, Biology (Retired)

Monroe Community College mourns the loss of Professor Emeritus of Biology Earl Tieppo at age 90 on October 10, 2021.

We are grateful for his 28 years of service to the College and his dedication to our students.

Professor Emeritus Tieppo joined MCC as an assistant professor in the Biology Department in 1963 and was promoted to associate professor five years later. In addition to teaching anatomy and physiology, he developed and taught a comparative anatomy course.

He was known as a dynamic educator who had excellent rapport with his students and was respected by his colleagues. He made any classroom come alive. It was not uncommon to see a group of students gathered around him for a “lab in,” an informal way to learn, during after-class hours.

Professor Emeritus Tieppo was promoted to professor of biology in 1975. During his tenure, he briefly served as director of registration. Upon his retirement in 1991, he was accorded the rank of professor emeritus.

Prior to joining MCC, he served three years in the Marine Corps.

In honoring his wishes, no formal services were held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rena Wegher Tieppo Nursing Scholarship Fund at Monroe Community College. Professor Emeritus Tieppo created this scholarship to honor his mother.

Additional details are in his obituary.
