Leading up to its 6th annual Voices of Vigilance program, the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project invites you to a free screening of PUSHING THE ELEPHANT. The award-winning documentary explores the experiences of Rose Mapendo and her family as they faced and survived war and genocide in the Democratic Republic of Congo during the late 1990s. Mapendo is the featured speaker at this year's Voices of Vigilance program on March 14.
In addition to a screening at the Brighton Campus today, February 28 at 3:30 pm in the Flynn Campus Center Brighton Room (3-217), there will also be a screening tomorrow at the Damon City Campus:

"This family portrait unfolds against the wider drama of war and explores the long-term and often hidden effects of war on women and families, particularly those in traditional societies -- financial despair, increased susceptibility to rape, and social ostracism. Rose and her family offer a lesson in what it means to become an active advocate for a peaceful and hopeful future." (source: Independent Lens PBS/ WXXI).
The film was directed and produced by Beth Davenport and Elizabeth Mendel in 2010. It is a co-production of Arts Engine, Inc. and the Independent Television Service in association with the National Black Programming Consortium, with funding provided by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
