You may have received a new credit card in the mail with the new chip technology. This chip is called “EMV” technology which stands for Europay, MasterCard, Visa (EMV). This new technology will help to reduce credit card fraud. The chip information is designed to change after each purchase whereas on the old card the magnetic strip information stayed the same. This makes it more difficult for criminals to read the data on the chip, and because it is constantly changing, to use this information fraudulently.
In the near future, with this new “chip” technology, you will “dip” your credit card vs “swipe” it through a reader.
