Teaching Science Online - ITC Audioconference

MCC will host the Instructional Technology Council's professional development audioconference entitled, "Teaching Science Online," on Tuesday, November 14 from 2:00-3:00pm in the Board Lounge. The presenters is Dr. Anita Naravane, Instructor in Anatomy and Physiology, St. Petersburg College.

Dr. Anita Naravane will demonstrate two of the online science courses that she has developed for St. Petersburg College. She will cover key components that should be included in the design and development of a course, techniques to include, and pointers on what should be avoided.  Anita will discuss how she presents the content to her students, uses the technology, testing procedures, interaction with students, and how she conducts online labs.

Anita will place audioconference participants in the role of the distance learning student by allowing them to see, hear, and interact with her and the online course material -- in the same way her students do.  She will use a real-time, desktop Web-conferencing too that her college developed, St. Petersburg Online Communicator, SPOC, which allows her students at remote sites to see and interact with the information displayed on the instructor's computer screen.  Participants will need a high-speed Internet connection with speakers.  A microphone is preferred to ask questions, but attendees can also use the software's chat box to type in questions  Attendees must attend this live event to participate since this presentation will not be archived.
