The Sixth Act Invites MCC to Geva!

The Sixth Act is thrilled to announce an exciting co-curricular opportunity that might be a good fit for several classes across several disciplines at MCC. We're hosting a special trip to Geva to see the World Premiere of Brian Quijada's musical Somewhere Over the Border on Thursday, April 14, at 7:30 PM. Geva has offered The Sixth Act discounted prices of $15, which we're subsidizing down to $10 through a generous endowment bestowed by one of our Senior Auditors.

Here's Geva's description of the play: "Inspired by the real-life journey of the writer’s mother (Reina Quijada) from El Salvador to the US – and by L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz – Somewhere Over the Border embraces the factual and the fantastical in its depiction of one young girl’s pursuit of the American dream. As Reina travels north to the Mexican border, she gathers friends, faces down dangers, and holds tight to the memory of the little boy she left behind. Set in the 1970s and propelled by cumbia, Mexican mariachi boleros, American rock and hip hop, this new musical is both fable and family history – and a testament to the determination born of love."

What we need now is a sense of numbers. If you think you'd like to include this event on some level for any of your classes, please email Maria Brandt (mbrandt@monroecc.edu) before Friday, February 18, to give us a sense of about how many tickets you think you might need. From there, we'll move forward together....

We hope you join us!
