In her All College Day Address, Dr. Kress officially introduced Starfish to the college community. Starfish is a Title III initiative to implement an early alert system at MCC, designed to support student success and retention. Starfish allows campus faculty and staff to offer targeted interventions for students who may be experiencing academic, financial, or personal difficulties. This fall, Starfish will go live with the following pilot student populations: Transitional Studies (TS01), English for Speakers of Other Languages (ES01), Athletes, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and Online students (SLN).
Over the summer, targeted faculty and staff who will directly serve the pilot populations received training; and faculty from across the campus also participated in general Starfish training sessions during the June Professional Development Week and on All College Day.
It is possible that every faculty member could have one or more students from the pilot populations in their classes. Faculty support and participation is an important element in finding success with our Starfish pilot. The training includes information on how to log-in to Starfish, setting up a profile and reviewing Starfish features.
Starfish Training sessions have been scheduled for: Friday, September 11 at Noon in 11-104 (Brighton); Monday, September 14 at Noon in 11-104 (Brighton); and Wednesday, September 16 at Noon in 5007 (DCC). We invite you to attend one of these sessions to learn more about Starfish.
