Upward Bound Students Attend the Rochester Mini Maker Faire

November 21st was a cloudy and gusty day; however, that didn’t stop some of our most dedicated MCC Upward Bound students from trekking downtown to enjoy the Rochester Mini Maker Faire. It wasn’t long until we were all swept up by the sheer number of stations the faire had to offer. They found an assortment of tables ranging from Rochester area robotics clubs, charity organizations, beauty products, and cultural organizations. There were some interactive booths and activities, such as the RCommunity Bikes’ station that let visitors tinker with some bike mechanics, or the giant seesaw that our students took complete advantage of. But the biggest hit of the day was definitely the photo booth: Armed with an array of funny hats, glasses, scarves and whatnot to choose from, we set out to create the silliest pictures we could possibly come up with, and there was no doubt about how well we did. At the end we were each given a set of the photos. Northeast tenth grader, Isabel, said that she wished she had seen the booth sooner because she would have stayed there all day. The Mini Maker Faire was a great way for our students to see what the Rochester area has to offer them. We hope that the faire will empower them to become “makers” of their own one day.
