New Student Orientation - Brighton - Call for Faculty

Once again faculty have an opportunity to be involved in New Student Orientation. Here is a chance for you to interface with new students and help them transition to MCC! Faculty participation in Orientation includes a 15 minute class simulation and a 45 minute academic expectations session. Faculty are invited to have lunch with the students on the day Orientation dates and snacks will be available on the evening Orientation dates.

A PowerPoint presentation has been developed to help guide the facilitation of the academic expectations session. The classroom simulation will be a 15 minute session in your discipline, and you choose the delivery - it could be a group activity, a mini interactive lecture, or anything you would normally do in your class to excite and engage students!

Orientation sessions this year have been divided into: 1) First Time College Student and Transfer Student Orientation (for new students under the age of 24) and 2) First Time Adult Learner and Readmitted MCC Student Orientation (for new students 25 or older and returning MCC students).

Students from all Schools will participate in each session. We are looking for faculty from all Schools to present on each of the following dates.

Day Orientation - Faculty Session is scheduled from 11:00-Noon

  • Friday, August 25 - First Time College Students & Transfer Students
  • Saturday, August 26 - First Time College Students & Transfer Students
  • Monday, August 28 - First Time College Students & Transfer Students
  • Tuesday, August 29 - First Time College Students & Transfer Students
  • Wednesday, August 30 - First Time College Students & Transfer Students

Evening Orientation - Faculty Session is scheduled from 6:15-7:00 (45 minutes)

  • Wednesday, August 30 - First Time Adult Learners & Readmitted MCC Students

September Orientation Sessions

  • Friday, September 1 - Orientation for First Time Adult Learners & Readmitted MCC Students. The Faculty Session is scheduled from 9:45-10:30 am (45 minutes).
  • Saturday September 2 - First Year Residential Student Orientation - details to follow.

*Check-in is required 15 minutes prior to your session.

Participating faculty will be paid (2 hours per session) through the Title III grant at a rate based on rank for all the sessions except the two occurring in September. Please indicate your interest in participating and the date(s) you are available to the Title III Project Secretary, Carol Wilkinson cwilkinson@monroecc.edu by May 31. Schedule confirmations will be sent the second week in June.

The Downtown Campus New Student Orientations sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, August 22 (day and evening sessions) and Monday, August 28 (evening). Faculty interested in participating in New Student Orientation at the Downtown Campus should contact Lisa Ekiert lekiert1@monroecc.edu.
