Paper, Pencils and Parking “Virtual” Permits - A Back to School Reminder from Your Parking Services Office

The first week of school is always a busy time of year and your Parking Services staff is working hard to ensure you have an easy time traveling in and out of the Brighton Campus employee parking lots.

As you walk through the employee parking lots, you will see the white paper/sticker permits attached to vehicles that were issued to MCC employees in the past.  These permits are no longer being issued and can be removed from your vehicle(s).  The parking lot gates and our parking enforcement attendants now recognize authorized vehicles by the license plate, not the white sticker.

Parking Services has been using a paperless vehicle registration system, otherwise known as our “virtual” permit system, for almost one year.  In most cases, this new system has been easy and convenient to use.  But, like all new technology, we have spent time working out the “bugs” so you can have a positive parking experience every time you come to the Brighton Campus.

How does the paperless “virtual” permit system work? You simply go to your myMCC account and register the license plate(s) of the vehicle(s) you will be parking on campus.  As you approach the gated entrance to Lot P, Lot A or Lot K, a license plate reader scans your license plate, identifies the license plate as being registered with Parking Services and the gate opens.  If the gate does not open, you can still swipe your MCC identification card as a backup.  If the gate doesn’t open for your vehicle, please contact Parking Services so we can troubleshoot the problem.

You may register more than one vehicle because we understand that you may not always drive the same vehicle to work every day.  There is no extra charge to you for registering multiple vehicles.

If another person/family member will be driving one of the vehicles that you listed on your MCC Parking Services account to campus, they are not allowed to park in an employee lot using your employee parking “virtual” registration. They should follow the parking rules that fit their own relationship or affiliation to the College. The license plate reader identifies whether the vehicle is registered to a student, employee etc.  For example:

·         Your family owns 2 vehicles and you register both vehicles with Parking Services as a fulltime employee.  Your son is a student and attends class at the Brighton Campus. You may park one vehicle on campus based on your “virtual” permit as an employee.  Your son must purchase a student “virtual” permit and register the vehicle(s) he plans to drive and park on campus.  He must park in a student parking lot unless he parks at a meter or utilizes the “pay by plate” stations located outside the Communications/Theatre, Building 4, or the Samuel J. Stabins Physical Education/PAC Center, Building 10.

·         Your family owns 2 vehicles.  You and your spouse are fulltime employees at MCC but drive different vehicles to work. You usually drive your own car, but sometimes you drive your spouse’s vehicle. In this case, each spouse should register both vehicles.

·         If you are like us, and never drive your spouse’s vehicle to work, then just register your own vehicle’s license plate with Parking Services.

·         Your vehicle is being repaired and you are driving a rental. Simply go into your myMCC account and add the license plate.  Easy, fast, convenient!

Part-time employees may obtain their “virtual” parking permit by paying a fee of $6.00 per month.  If you are registering more than one vehicle, you will only be charged for one vehicle per month.

If you are newly employed or adding an additional vehicle please follow the instructions listed below.  If you are a current employee and your vehicles are already in the system you do not need to do anything.  However you are able to view your active vehicles by logging into your My Parking Account.

To register your vehicle(s) for parking on the Brighton Campus:

·         Sign into your myMCC account with your “M” number and password.

·         Select Banner tab

·         Select Banner Self-Service

·         Go to employee tab.

·         Select My Parking Account.

·         You will be prompted for a term.  Select the current term.

·         Select Vehicle Registration/Purchase by Semester from the drop-down menu.  If you are a contract employee you are not charged for parking.  If you are an hourly employee payment can be made through the system one month at a time.  If you would like to pay for multiple months, payment must be made at Parking Services.

·         Make a selection from vehicle listed above (if applicable) or add a vehicle (have your vehicle registration available).  All information requested is required to complete the transaction.

·         Select Request Parking.
