Jim Coffey's Reflection on 42 Years of Service as a 2021 Carmen Powers Legacy Lecture Honoree

Jim Coffey is one of our 2021 Carmen Powers Legacy Lectures honorees. During his 42 years of service at MCC, Don has served students not only through his teaching, but in his unwavering efforts for 292-BABY. In his nomination letter, a colleague writes, “It’s an understatement that Professor Coffey’s commitment to early childhood development during the last 25 years has literally affected thousands of children in the Rochester community and beyond. I could go on about Professor Coffey’s contributions to both the MCC and Rochester community. His instruction at MCC and programming for the community has reached many lives. But I will simply say that he has done much for me as I enter my 16th year at MCC. He is probably unaware of this, but I consider him a valuable mentor to my development as an educator. And for that I will always be grateful.” It is clearly evident that Jim’s impact as a mentor, educator, and community activist have a far-reaching and lasting impact.

Attached are Jim’s reflections about his career at MCC. Please take the time to read his reflections and information about his post-retirement project.

Thank you, Jim, for your tremendous impact at MCC and the Rochester community. There are so many mothers are their children who have benefited from your body of work.
