League for Innovation Representatives Visit Next Week

On Monday, August 9, and Tuesday, August 10, the League for Innovation in the Community College will be visiting MCC as the second part in the process of reaffirming our seat on the League’s Board of Directors. Please join me in welcoming Tony Zeiss, President of Central Piedmont Community College, Charlotte, N.C.; Rufus Glasper, Chancellor of Maricopa Community Colleges, Phoenix, Ariz.; and Dr. Gerardo de los Santos, President and CEO of the League.

A Monday evening dinner in Canal Hall will be the forum for the League team to visit with our Board of Trustees about MCC’s League membership and to see one of the many examples of MCC innovation. On Tuesday morning, our League guests will hear about nine areas of innovation from MCC faculty, staff, and alumni. My deep appreciation goes out to these MCC colleagues who have dedicated a great deal of time to the preparation of the following presentations:

1. Our Access Agenda — Kate Schiefen
2. Our Success and Completion Agenda — Peter Osborn, Marcus Watts
3. Meeting the Demand for Health Care Professionals — Frank Rinehart
4. Sustainability Initiatives — Valarie Avalone, Blaine Grindle
5. Co-curricular Learning — Mike McDonough, Betty Stewart
6. Facilitating Transfer — Chris Belle-Isle, Rebecca Mack
7. Employee Development — Clayton Jones, Kristen Fragnoli
8. MCC Foundation: Engaging Alumni — Richard Brienzi ‘79, Mark Pastorella '90, Karen Shaw '78, Diane Shoger
9. Civility — Dick Stewart, Lee Struble

Their visit with us concludes after lunch on Tuesday. The visiting team will then report to the League board at its fall board meeting. I will certainly share that news with you as soon as their decision is known.
