Book Review/Discussion -- Latinas in the Workplace: An Emerging Leadership Force

“Departing from the higher education-specific focus of the first two books in Stylus’s Journeys to Leadership series, this third volume takes up the topic of Latina leadership across economic sectors and professional roles. The book focuses on eight accomplished Latinas to paint revealing portraits about their pathways to success and their tactics for self-sustenance. In the process, it illustrates important lessons about such popular topics as work–life balance, the meaning of success, and how to manage challenges related to discrimination based on gender and ethnicity. With five of the eight women profiled having spent their careers in education, many of these lessons are relevant to women faculty and administrators, despite the book’s broader focus”. – American Association of Colleges and Universities

Three MCC Latina professionals will serve as panelists to provide an overview of the book and lead in a discussion about the common and diverse perspectives that are brought to the workplace.  Panelists include:

Marisol Galarza-Ruiz – Assistant Professor of Spanish, La Voz Magazine Spanish Editor

Nayda Pares-Kane – Associate Professor and Chair of AHPS
Mary Mendez-Rizzo – Admissions Counselor
