2022 Outstanding WAC Faculty Award Winners

Please join the Writing Across the Curriculum Committee in congratulating Katie Leite and Pamela Fornieri (ESOL/TRS) as this year's recipients of the Outstanding WAC Faculty Award.

For nearly a decade, Katie and Pam have been the stewards of ESOL Voices, a publication showcasing the amazing writing of MCC students since 1985. It is now in digital format and published on the Global Faces website, ESOL Voices: Student Spotlight. Their words bear witness to hopes and fears, to struggle and tenacity, to sorrow and joy, and remind us that telling stories--putting words to them, whether written or spoken or signed--is how humans come to know each other, ourselves, and the world we inhabit.

Writing as a process of coming to know something better is a basic principle of Writing Across the Curriculum. Katie and Pam's efforts also help to shift campus perceptions not only about student writing, but about the students who do the writing. Their work with international and other ESOL students models what it means to approach student writing from an equity and asset-based mindset--something that affirms and values students' linguistic and cultural diversity as they build their English-language skills and work towards their academic goals.

Katie and Pam will be honored for this award at the Employee Recognition Ceremony on May 25.
