Students to Host E-Recycling Event at MCC


The Geosciences Association of Monroe Community College has partnered with Rochester-based Maven Technologies, LLC to host an e-recycling event, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, May 2, at the Brighton Campus, lot M-1. The college community and generally public are invited to recycle cell phones, computers and electronic equipment at no charge; some computer monitors and televisions will require a $5 fee to recycle. Proceeds and donations will support geosciences-related field trips and guest lecturers to benefit students at the college.

Acceptable equipment can be described generally as any piece of equipment that has a power cord that is not an appliance, including:

Computers (including all associated peripherals and hardware)
Laptops
Modems
Monitors
Network and Storage Equipment
Printers/Fax Machines/Scanners/Copiers/Duplicators
Remote Controls
Servers
Telecommunications Equipment
Televisions
Test and Measurement Equipment
Typewriters
Paper Shredders
Smoke Detectors
UPSs (Uninterruptible Power Suppliers)
Decommissioned Lasers
X-ray Units
Batteries (non-automobile)
CD players/Radios/Stereos/DVD Players/VCR’s/Video Game Consoles
Cellular Phones/Pagers/Telephones/Telephone Equipment/Answering Machines

Unacceptable equipment for recycling, include:
Home appliances (i.e., washers, driers, dishwashers, refrigerators, freezers, stoves)
Microwaves
Fluorescent bulbs
Dehumidifiers

The Geosciences Association is a student organization dedicated to earth sciences education and service. Through weekly meetings, field trips and community service, association members further their knowledge and the ideas and aims of the geosciences.
