STEP LEGO team wins, proceeds to Championship Tournament.

On Saturday, the STEP LEGO Robotics team, AstroFlight, competed in a regional event at Edison Tech for the Finger Lakes FIRST LEGO League Tournament.  The theme of this year’s competition was “Smart Move” – finding efficient transportation solutions.

The 10-student team of 7th- 9th graders wowed judges with their presentation on the Maglev train (complete with working model).  Judges were further impressed with the AstroFlight’s technical presentation on the design, strategy, and programming of their robot.

A crowd of orange-clad fans (including parents and other STEP students) with pom-poms, homemade signs, and thunder sticks made the stands shake as the AstroFlight robot took the stage for 3 rounds of competition. It was an amazing day…

Team AstroFlight won the first trophy of the awards ceremony, for their outstanding project, and earned a position in the Finger Lakes Championship Tournament at the University of Rochester on Sunday, December 6th.

Congratulations to the AstroFlight team and its coaches!  Go MCC STEP!
