MCC Diversity Quilt

For those of you who would like to see the MCC Diversity Quilt up close, you can find it in the Admissions Department until the end of November.  After that it will be hung on the wall in Building 6 between Records/Registration, and Financial Aid.

The quilt was a college-wide effort inspired by members of the Diversity Council to enhance the physical environment of the College and celebrate the power of diversity and inclusiveness.  The Diversity Quilt project was led by Rita Straubhaar and Debbie Alimentato.  Jean Fornataro was the principal designer of the quilt.  Sylvia Lavin was in charge of the Design Committee.

The photo squares of the quilt represent the four campuses; Brighton Campus, Damon City Campus, Public Safety Training Center, and Applied Technologies.  In addition, the original Alexander Street Campus was included along with mention of the College’s 50th anniversary.

The middle section of the quilt highlights the faces of diversity at the College which include students, faculty, staff, alumni, and retirees.  The shadows of the faces form the MCC logo.  Lastly, the fabric pinwheels represents; academics, veterans, sports, and anything college related.  We even included paw prints to represent Abby!

We hope that you will be able to stop by to see the MCC Diversity Quilt.
