College Update on COVID-19 Testing Efforts & Cases

Monroe County announced 338 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, Nov. 22. The County's 7-day rolling average positivity rate is 3.52%, down from last week. Parts of the County are still considered a yellow precautionary zone.

Yesterday, Gov. Cuomo warned that parts of the city of Rochester would move to an orange warning zone designation this week if the positivity rate and other numbers don't improve. You will be notified immediately if the County moves to orange-zone status and its impact on MCC. Orange-zone status requires fully remote teaching and learning and gatherings of less than 10 people.

Thank you to those who participated in pooled testing sessions last week. To date, MCC has conducted 3,357 pooled tests. Since Monday, Nov. 16, the Monroe County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) confirmed 6 positive cases among MCC students and employees. Contact tracing is complete and people who need to quarantine or isolate have been notified. According to MCC Health Services:

  • 0 students are isolating on campus
  • 27 students are isolating off campus
  • 43 students are in mandatory quarantine (on and off campus)
  • 0 students are in precautionary quarantine

At this time, classes and activities continue as planned. If the MCDPH indicates that additional steps need to be taken, we will update you immediately. MCC is unable to legally disclose any further details or personal identifiable information about these students and employees per federal privacy laws.
