Simmons Appointed to SUNY Group Looking at System CC Finances; MCC Financial Responsibility Noted

Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Administrative Services Hezekiah Simmons was recently named by SUNY Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Chief Financial Officer Eileen McLoughlin to a working group looking at the administrative, financial, and operational futures of SUNY's 30 community colleges. In this role, he and the other members will discuss and deliver to Chancellor Johnson recommendations on potential cost savings, operational efficiencies and maintenance of unique institutional qualities.

The working group is comprised of about 10 representatives from SUNY community college presidents and trustees, the SUNY Community College Business Officers Association and the community colleges themselves, with attention to achieving representation from community colleges of all sizes.

Additionally, SUNY recently cited MCC as among the most financially responsible of its 30 affiliated community colleges. SUNY ranked the system's community colleges on financial responsibility on a scale of 3.0 to -1.0 for three consecutive years (2015, 2016 and 2017). In 2017, MCC achieved the highest ranking with a score of 2.9 (shared with North Country Community College); MCC achieved the same index score in 2016 (shared with FIT). In 2015, MCC'S index was 2.7 and we were second only to FIT in the rankings.

My thanks to Heze, his team and all those who support the College's commitment to fiscal responsibility. Their good work directly impacts MCC's fiscal health and has earned MCC a seat at the SUNY table in conversations important to the future of community colleges.
