Curriculum Packets for "Medicine Show"

The Sixth Act is pleased to announce that curriculum packets will be available by the end of this week for our upcoming staged reading of the 1939 living-newspaper play Medicine Show. The curriculum packet will include a list of panelists for each performance’s post-show discussion, an excerpt from the actual script, a 1940 New York Times review of the original production, two article excerpts that define/describe the living-newspaper play as a unique dramatic form informed by political-ideological clashes at the beginning of the twentieth century, and a series of political cartoons that look at the health care debate over the last one-hundred years. We’re hoping to have lots of students from lots of disciplines talking about the argument presented by the play. Please contact Maria Brandt at "mailto:mbrandt@monroecc.edu" if you would like to receive a curriculum packet.

Remember, the event will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, March 10-12, in the North Atrium. It is free and open to the public, and parking will be available in Lot F. The staged reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a 45-minute panel-led discussion.

Panelists will include the following: David R. Lambert, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry; Emily Queenan, MD, Queenan Family Medicine and Maternity Care; Maria Brandt, Director of The Sixth Act, MCC; Carmen Powers, Associate Professor of Business Administration and Economics, MCC; Robert L. Muhlnickel, Ph.D., Assistant Professor English/Philosophy, MCC; Timothy Malia, MD, Malia Family Medicine, Fairport, NY; William "Bill" Drumright, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, History, MCC; Dr. Nancy Wilk, Assistant Professor of Nursing, St. John Fisher College; Theodore M. Brown, Professor of History and of Community and Preventive Medicine, University of Rochester; and Dr. Tim Madigan, Assistant Professor of Philosophy, St. John Fisher College.

We hope to see you and your students there!
