The Sixth Act is pleased to announce that curriculum packets will be available by the end of this week for our upcoming staged reading of the 1939 living-newspaper play Medicine Show. The curriculum packet will include a list of panelists for each performance’s post-show discussion, an excerpt from the actual script, a 1940 New York Times review of the original production, two article excerpts that define/describe the living-newspaper play as a unique dramatic form informed by political-ideological clashes at the beginning of the twentieth century, and a series of political cartoons that look at the health care debate over the last one-hundred years. We’re hoping to have lots of students from lots of disciplines talking about the argument presented by the play. Please contact Maria Brandt at "mailto:mbrandt@monroecc.edu" if you would like to receive a curriculum packet.
Remember, the event will be Thursday, Friday, Saturday, March 10-12, in the North Atrium. It is free and open to the public, and parking will be available in Lot F. The staged reading will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be followed by a 45-minute panel-led discussion.
Panelists will include the following: David R. Lambert, MD, Senior Associate Dean for Medical Student Education, Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry; Emily Queenan, MD, Queenan Family Medicine and Maternity Care; Maria Brandt, Director of The Sixth Act, MCC; Carmen Powers, Associate Professor of Business Administration and Economics, MCC; Robert L.
