What is Wage Theft?

Students do you work in the hotel, restaurant or travel industry. Or maybe you work in a nursing home, factory or grocery store. Wage theft is very common and happens more and more and people sometimes are not aware of their rights or understand how it occurs. Wage theft is the unlawful practice of employers not paying their employees the full amount for the work they have performed. If this sounds fairly broad, that is because wage theft can be perpetrated in a number of different ways, both by breaking the law and by not adhering to a contractual relationship.

Overtime pay

  • Employee misclassification
  • Minimum wage violations
  • Working off the clock
  • Illegal deductions from pay
  • Not being paid at all
