State Troopers Honor A.J. Sperr’s Memory with Gift

In the presence of Andrew and Jean Sperr, representatives of New York State Police Troop E presented their latest gift of $9,000 to the Monroe Community College Foundation in support of the Andrew “A.J.” Sperr Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund. The fund was established by the Sperrs in 2007 to honor the memory of their son Trooper A.J. Sperr, who was killed in the line of duty on March 1, 2006. The scholarship supports students pursuing a degree in law enforcement or criminal justice at MCC who achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

A.J. Sperr graduated from MCC in 1994 and is a member of the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame. A memorial plaque in his honor is displayed within the Law and Criminal Justice Department at MCC’s Damon City Campus.

“It was such a loss nine and a half years ago,” said Andrew Sperr. “Jean and I focus on the good things that have occurred since then and the many people who supported us who have become family and friends. The work Troop E has done with the golf tournament is appreciated,” he said.

Scholarship funds are raised at an annual golf tournament hosted by New York State Police Troop E. Funds support scholarships at MCC, Aquinas Institute and St. Lawrence Catholic School where A.J. Sperr attended. To date, Troop E has contributed $32,500 to the endowed fund at MCC.
