The Honors Institute Needs Your Help

Once again I need your help to identify outstanding students who may benefit from and enjoy an Honors course or seminar. Last semester we had over 200 outstanding students recommended by faculty and staff across the college. In addition to good grades, intellectual curiosity and self-motivation are characteristics of successful Honors students. Please keep in mind that all Honors courses are Writing Intensive, and can be quite demanding for under-prepared students and those that have not developed good study and work habits. Typically about 2-3% of our student-body are invited to take an Honors course.

All full-time faculty will receive a copy of our fall course application in their mailbox. Copies for adjunct faculty and staff will be distributed to department offices and other support offices around campus. Please simply fill out your name as the person making the recommendation and, with a word or two of encouragement, give the application to the student. We’ve found that your personal encouragement is much more effective than a form letter from me. Of course, feel free to suggest the student stop by the Honors office (5-212) if they have questions.

Students are much more likely to take an Honors course if they receive the invitation before they register for next semester’s courses.  Priority registration begins Monday, March 12th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to call (x2490) or email (
mailto:pdalessandris@monroecc.edu).

Thanks for your help.
