Attendance for Spring Term

Welcome back from winter break!  Hope you had a fabulous break and were able to go to a sunny and warm location.  Well, the fun is over now and we are all back to work.  That means we are getting very close to the attendance deadline.  Attendance for courses with a census date of February 9th or earlier is due on Wednesday, February 25th.  (Yes, this Wendesday).  This collection includes all full term courses and most short or early start courses.  An e-mail detailing the specific courses in which attendance is due was sent to your MCC e-mail address in early February.

Remember the basic rules of attendance:

(1) Enter your attendance in Banner under the  'Attendance, Withdrawal & Final Grades' menu option.
(2) Students who attend on or after the census date  should be coded with a 1 in the 'Attend Hrs' column in Banner.  (3) Students who have never attended the course should be  coded with a 0 in the 'Attend Hrs' column in Banner.

(4) Students who have attended through the census date  and have subsequently stopped attending should have a date entered in  the 'Last Attend Date' column.  Enter this data in the following  format:  MM/DD/YYYY  (The most common error: entering a 2 digit  year) Every student needs an attendance entry.
(5) Submit the data.
(6) Go back into the roster and check your work before closing Banner.

As you know, students will  not be issued financial aid for any course in which we do not have attendance information.  The good news is that in the last few years, we have  successfully completed all our attendance by the deadline.  So, student aid has not been delayed.  I am confident the same will be true this  term and appreciate your work in achieving this.

If you have any questions, please contact me.   This should be a 10 minute task for each roster.  If you are struggling, close Banner and call or e-mail me.  We can work on it together.  Once  you get the hang of this process, it will be simple.  I promise.

Enjoy the remainder of the spring term.

PS If you are withdrawing students who never showed or stopped  attending, remember to enter a last date of attendance for every W  (or F grade) entered.
