Spanish-language Publication Highlights 3 MCC Programs


The latest edition of El Mensajero Católico, a Spanish-language monthly publication, contains three articles about MCC programs:

Ross Micali, MCC project coordinator, was interviewed about this summer day camp at ATC for high school students. This year, 15 East High School sophomores, juniors and seniors had an opportunity to explore the science of optics by designing various experiments under the guidance of local optics professionals and educators. Tom Battley, executive director of the Rochester Regional Photonics Cluster; Paul Conrow, East High School science teacher; and a camp participant were also quoted in the article.

Tom Fitch, program coordinator with MCC’s Office of Workforce Development, and instructor Jim Ellison were interviewed about this program, which provides education and training to economically disadvantaged Rochester city residents in preparing them for employment in the green industry. Reporter Annette Jiménez also interviewed students Shantresia Nix and Max Cherry about their impression of the program, located in the construction lab on the second floor of the Sibley Building.

-- Puerto Plata firefighter training at PSTF: https://es.elmensajerorochester.com/comunidad-y-fe/interes-humano/bomberos-de-rochester-ayudan-a-sus-colegas-dominicanos/. The fire chief and two firefighters from Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic were interviewed about their two weeks of firefighter training at the Public Safety Training Facility. The visiting firemen learned firefighting and training methods to help them improve their own training program.
