Spread the Word: MCC Students Can Save Green, Go Green

Now there is a new way for Monroe Community College students to save money and help the environment.

The college’s new GreenSaver Rideshare option is aimed at reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles on Brighton campus in support of the college’s green initiatives by encouraging MCC students to share a ride to campus. Parking permits cost $50 each fall and spring semester for GreenSaver members and $75 each semester for non-members; the summer rate, which covers all sessions, is $50 for all students. To become a GreenSaver member, a team consisting of two or more individuals must agree to arrive on campus together in one vehicle. So, if four students agree to come to campus in ONE vehicle for the semester, each member splits the parking fee and pays only $12.50! The more people in a GreenSaver Rideshare team, the more each member saves! Each team member must register his or her vehicle through MCC Parking Services, but only one permit will be issued for each team.

GreenSaver teams must prominently display the permit in their vehicles at all times and park in specially designated lots and spaces. Preferential parking will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in lots A, C and J. Each designated stall is marked by green lines and an image depicting a vehicle with occupants.

Permit holders may use a Rideshare parking space only when operating as a valid team. Individuals found violating conditions of the agreement must forfeit their permits. Any vehicle parked in violation of the GreenSaver rules will be subject to a citation and/or towing.

GreenSaver permits expire at the end of each semester. The permit application is available online via the Parking Services home page at https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/GreenSaver.htm or in the Parking Services office (7-341). Applicants must return the completed form along with their driver's license, vehicle registration and student ID to the Parking Services office (7-341). Office hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m.-4:45 p.m. Friday. All participants must be present to apply.
