Passing of Retiree Colette Fegan

I'm saddened to inform the college community that retiree Colette Fegan passed away on Monday, May 22.

In 1966, Colette, a MCC secretarial science student, began her MCC career as a student aide in the Curriculum Office.

By 1967, Colette was not only a proud MCC alumna but a full-time employee in the Admissions Office. She worked at 410 Alexander Street when the Brighton Campus was only a blueprint. In 1970, she began working in the Office of Transfer, Placement, Financial Aid and EOP which would later become the Office of Transfer & Placement.

When Colette received the Support Staff Award in 1990, the nomination read in part, "Colette's contributions to the College have extended far beyond her departmental job duties and her dedication and involvement in college-related events has been ever present.... Enthusiasm, initiative and congeniality characterize Colette and her exemplary service to students, faculty and staff."

In 1994, she left the Student Services Division for the Academic Services Division, eventually finding her way to the Office of Workforce Development and Technical Education as an administrative assistant, where she remained until her 2005 retirement.

Colette pitched in everywhere. Known for her quick wit and strong work ethic, she exhibited a cordial professionalism that greatly benefitted the College. A Commencement Committee member for 30 consecutive years, she served as CSEA member on the MCC Association, Inc. Board (1983-2001). In addition to being an elected steward on the CSEA Board, she also spent several years as membership chair. A founding member of the Support Staff Professional Development Committee, she was instrumental in procuring a $14,000 internal grant for support staff development programs. In 2005, Colette received the MCC President's Award, given to an employee "who has consistently given service to MCC beyond the call of duty."

On the occasion of her retirement, Colette was asked what her number one accomplishment had been. "Assisting thousands of students realize their dream of an education at MCC," she said. Colette did that every day for more than 37 years.

Services are pending; details will be added here as soon as they become available.
