Retiree Edgar J. Whitcomb, Engineering Technologies


MCC recently learned of the passing of Edgar J. “Ed” Whitcomb on April 30, 2016 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Marlys Cornwell Whitcomb, six children, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Whitcomb was a U.S. Army veteran and a graduate of the University of Rochester. He also completed a four-year training program offered by Gleason Works and the Rochester Institute of Technology. After a successful career in manufacturing management and engineering at Gleason Works, Bausch and Lomb, and other local employers, Mr. Whitcomb became an educator and lecturer in MCC’s Engineering Technologies Department (formerly known as Mechanical and Quality Control Technology) in 1988. His dedication to students was well known and respected. In addition to teaching, he also served as the faculty advisor for the student chapter of the Society of Mechanical Engineers and American Society for Quality. After teaching mechanical technology and statistical quality control, he retired in 2001.

According to an obituary published by the Democrat and Chronicle on May 8, a memorial service, followed by round and square dancing, will be held on Friday, May 30 at United Church of Pittsford at 7 p.m. Donations in his memory will be accepted by the First Baptist Church of Macedon, N.Y, and the Rochester Area Federation of Round & Square Dance Clubs, c/o Mary Land, 3901 Ridge Chapel, Marion, N.Y. 14505.
