Governor Cuomo Directs Flags to Half-Staff

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014 in honor of a Fort Hood soldier who died in Afghanistan on Friday, Dec. 12.

Sgt. Ramon S. Morris died from wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device in Parwan Province, Afghanistan. Morris, from New York City, was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.

"On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest sympathies to Sgt. Raymond Morris’ family, friends and fellow soldiers,” Governor Cuomo said. "We join with his loved ones to honor his bravery, leadership and service to this state and this nation. His sacrifice will be remembered with pride.”

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state's service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
