Healthy Smiles Walk 2009

The local component of the Dental Hygienists Association of the State of New York held their annual "Healthy Smiles Walk on Sunday, September 27th at St. John Fisher College in Rochester. On the rain soaked day 58 of the 96 walkers were college students. Half of the proceeds raised from the walk go to the Empire Project for Oral Health and half go to the Pluta Cancer Center.

Last year's walk assisted Pluta patients with gasoline cards (11) to get them to their radiation treatment appointments, 5 patients were assisted with the purchase of electric razors (because they can't use straight-edge during treatment), 2 patients were assisted with dental bills, and 3 patients were assisted with grocery cards as disability income only reflects 1/3 of their salary.

Congratulations to all the students and faculty who participated.
