Passing of Joseph "Joe" Baker, Engineering Technologies Retiree

I am saddened to inform the College community that Joseph "Joe" Baker, retired professor of electrical technology in the Engineering Technologies Department, passed away on November 11, 2019.

A Navy veteran, Joe began working full time at MCC as an instructor in 1967. During his tenure, he rose through the ranks, serving as department chair for three years, and in 1981 was promoted to professor.

Joe was known to give 110 percent for his students, the department and the College. He frequently brought new and different techniques of teaching technology into his courses and into other departmental offerings.

His service to the College included participation on many committees and task forces, including the search committees for Academic Services vice president and dean, and was advisor of the Ski Club for many years. He also served on the Faculty Association and played with the MCC band at commencement.

He retired in 2000 after nearly 35 years of service.

Joe received a master's degree from Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Vanderbilt University.

A celebration of his life will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Saturday, December 14, 2019, at a private residence, 69 Prince Street in Rochester. There will be no services or calling hours. Additional details are in his obituary.
