Brightspace Updates and a Reminder to Check Out the Sandbox!

An important reminder about migration from Blackboard to Brightspace for faculty and staff using Blackboard for course content!

Keep an eye out for reminders in the MCC Tribune this year. We will post important updates and we don't want you to miss any details about migration. This applies to you whether you have content in Blackboard as a faculty member (all faculty) or you manage an organization with content (such as departmental spaces, committee spaces, compliance training, advising content, etc.). We are in the midst of planning, so we will have new information as we work with our D2L migration team.

Specifics about how we are migrating content is still to be determined. Thanks for your patience as we work through this process. You can view a tentative timeline on our website. We recommend bookmarking our migration website because we will provide updates here: https://sites.monroecc.edu/brightspace/

A few things to note:

  • MCC was selected as part of the Cohort 1 migration. Our next LMS is D2L's Brightspace (most of you know this already!) We expect to pilot courses in the summer 2022 with a full conversion to Brightspace by the fall 2022 semester.
  • The Virtual Campus team has been involved in SUNY-wide committees where we have been in various conversations around training (Kate and Jeremy), templates (Andrea and Tom), technical implementation (Jamie), campus implementation (Terry), and DLE advisory (Terry). Terry Keys is the Campus Sponsor and Campus Lead, Andrea Gilbert is the Academic Lead, and Jamie Hoover is the Technical Lead.
  • We are looking for summer faculty to pilot a course in Brightspace. Please let us know if you are interested by filling out our interest form: I'd Like to be a Piloteer!
  • Are you looking to experiment with Brightspace during your break? Don’t forget that the Brightspace sandbox is available to everyone! You can register and create your own account if you haven't already done so: Try Brightspace.  To login, go to SUNY Play Brightspace Demo
  • If you need help as you are working in the Brightspace, take advantage of the “Email D2L Sandbox Support” for assistance.
  • While we do not have formal Brightspace training just yet, Brightspace has plenty of resources to get you started. We have posted these on our MCC migration website under the “Get to Know Brightspace” page.
  • If you missed any of our Virtual Campus presentations on Brightspace (our last presentation was on 1/19/22), you can view these on our migration website.
  • Please use our form for any anonymous concerns and questions or contact us at virtualcampus@monroecc.edu

Happy playing!
