MCC Ranks in Top 10 of the Nation’s Community Colleges

Since 2004, Monroe Community College has ranked in the top 10 of the nation’s community colleges when it comes to students who earn associate degrees, according to Community College Week, an independent biweekly newspaper. This year is no different.

MCC ranked 9th among two-year colleges and 16th among two- and four-year colleges with 2,419 associate degree graduates in 2006-2007. According to Community College Week, nearly 732,186 associate degrees were conferred by 2,743 colleges in 2006-2007.

“National rankings, such as those published by College Community Week, confirm that Monroe Community College succeeds in its mission to provide access to high quality education and training programs to a diverse community,” said MCC President R. Thomas Flynn. “MCC is consistently ranked among the top 10 community colleges because our faculty and staff are keenly focused on the ultimate success of every student.”

Not only did MCC rank 9th overall, it also landed on Community College Week’s subcategory lists as well. MCC ranked first among community colleges in communication, journalism and related programs and among the top 10 in business management, marketing and related services (7th), communications technologies (2nd), criminal justice (9th), security and protective services (5th) and precision production (12th).

Community College Week annually ranks two- and four-year colleges that grant associate degrees based on data submitted by colleges to the U.S. Department of Education. The latest rankings are based on 2006-2007 data.  Community College Week’s study focuses on degree completion only.
