Disability Awareness Month: October 2021
In 1988, the United States Congress declared October as National Disability Awareness Month, to raise awareness of the employment needs and contributions of individuals with all types of disabilities. To highlight the month, the Counseling Center and Disability Services office would like to share a couple resources with you provided by Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD). AHEAD provides engaging training sessions to promote accessibility across the field of higher education. AHEAD hosts yearly conferences and the 2020 virtual conference focused on equity and excellence as it pertains to supporting students with disabilities. We welcome you to watch any recordings that are applicable to you.
You will not be required to create an account with AHEAD; rather, you will be directed to entire your name and email address. The duration of the videos varies from 60-90 minutes. You are also able to stop the recording and go back at any given time.
Our office welcomes you to reference the following conference recordings:
- Testing PDFs for Accessibility and Standards Conformance (Zoom Recording-Slides and Speaker View)
- Considerations for Online Course Testing and Remote Proctoring after the Pandemic (Zoom Recording-Slides and Speaker View)
- Tips for Promoting Accessible IT Campus-wide Within the Context of a Universal Design Framework (Zoom Recording-Slides and Speaker View)
- Accessible Online Courses: How to Strategize, Prioritize, and Educate (Zoom Recording-Slides and Speaker View)
