Chiefs of Police Inspire Law and Criminal Justice Students


Monroe County Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn, a member of the MCC Alumni Hall of Fame, hosted a scholarship presentation for Monroe Community College’s Law and Criminal Justice students and faculty on December 7 at the Watts Conference Center in downtown Rochester. Sheriff O’Flynn, James Werner (Monroe County Deputy Sheriffs’ Association), Chief Daniel P. Varrenti (Monroe County Association of Chiefs of Police/Brockport Police Department) and MCC Law and Criminal Justice faculty presented $500 scholarships to the following MCC students:

Candace Cozzens—Jeannette Fuino Memorial Scholarship
Shawna Cubiotti—J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Scholarship
Ryan Gottermeier—Monroe County Association of Chiefs of Police Scholarship
Christopher Guy—Sgt. Robert Skelton Memorial Scholarship
Peter Marasco—Monroe County Association of Chiefs of Police Scholarship
Michael Montagno—Deputy Galen J. Herren Memorial Scholarship

In addition to the scholarships, Chief Varrenti, who also serves as president of Monroe County Association of Chiefs of Police (MCACP) presented Diane Shoger, director of development and major gifts at the Monroe Community College Foundation, with a check for $2,000 to fund future scholarships. The scholarship monies are raised at an annual benefit concert hosted by MCACP during the summer. This marks the second year MCACP has funded scholarships at MCC.
