Where can you safely lock up our bike if you are brave enough to ride it to work at MCC?

Most of the buildings on the Brighton campus have a bike rack near them. A lot of the racks are completely exposed to the elements, meaning your bike will also be completely exposed to the elements. On a rainy day, or a snowy day, this can mean coming out to a wet saddle.

Several entrances have a semi-protected area with a bicycle rack. Under the ramp outside building 1, or outside the west entrances to buildings 5 and 9. These racks offer some protection from the elements for your bike. Did you know that even on a nice sunny day, exposure to the elements can be detrimental to your ride?  UV damage happens to bicycle parts too. In my experience though, a bike can easily weather the elements for years before sustaining any serious damage.

Indoor parking can be done inconspicuously. If you have the office space, bring your ride in and keep it securely by your desk. Or, place your bike out of sight under a stairwell. Nobody needs to even know it is there! However, if you are fearful of vandalism, this is a perfect place for a vandal to attack your bike free from prying eyes.

There really is no shortage of good parking for bicycles on the Brighton campus. A much bigger issue is locker and shower facilities. To the best of my knowledge, building 10 is the only place that provides a locker and showers. Depending on how much you sweat, though, many riders can get by with a “towel bath” taken in one of the many lavatory facilities located all over campus.

Regardless of where on campus you choose to lock your bike, you will have to provide your own lock and cable. Do not let a perceived scarcity of bicycle parking keep you from commuting to work at MCC. There is plenty of space for bicycle parking.
