Passing of Eric Hanson, Central Receiving Retiree

I am saddened to share the news that Eric Hanson, MCC retiree in the Shipping and Receiving Department, passed away on May 31, 2016.

Eric began his MCC career in 1984 in the position of heavy laborer in the Equipment Management Department. In 1999, he was promoted to senior driver mover and continued in that position until his retirement in 2014 after 30 years of service.

Eric was frequently praised for his professionalism and top-notch job performance and was well liked by many of his colleagues because of his friendly personality. He was the recipient of the Support Staff Award in 1995 in recognition of his exceptional service to the college.

“Eric lived his life for his wife and their dogs. He loved MCC and would be most remembered for his ‘can do’ attitude and desire to ‘go above and beyond’ for the students, faculty, and staff,” said Patrick Bates, director of Purchasing and Central Receiving who served as Eric’s supervisor for 19 years.

Eric’s spirit of cooperativeness and efficiency, coupled with a very congenial nature, are reflected in commendation letters from different offices across the college over the years:

After completing a moving project for the Counseling Center in 1987, the director wrote: “Eric was well-organized, managed his crew effectively and was extremely easy to work with. In fact, I can’t think of anybody who is easier to get along with than Eric. Although I don’t look forward to moving again in the near future, if I have to move, I certainly want Eric Hanson in charge of the job.”

In 1990, Eric was commended by the MCC controller for consistently providing outstanding customer service, demonstrating good work ethic and maintaining high standards of work. “I’m very pleased that MCC has afforded me the opportunity to serve with you,” the controller wrote.

Eric is survived by his wife of 42 years, Ranae, also an MCC retiree; his stepmother; two siblings; beloved dogs, Snake, Tripp and Bowie; and cat, Kitty. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother.

Calling hours are from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, June 5, followed by a memorial service, at the Falcone Family Funeral & Cremation Service Inc., 8700 Lake Rd. (Rt. 19), LeRoy.

As Eric was an avid outdoorsman, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Humphrey Nature Center at Letchworth State Park, c/o Natural Heritage Trust, 625 Broadway, Albany, NY, 12207, 518-474-2997.
