20 Holocaust Survivors to Participate in Yom Hashoah Commemoration Tomorrow

They are men and women who survived the Holocaust in Europe. Twenty survivors, who call Rochester home, are coming to Monroe Community College's Brighton Campus tomorrow to help us remember the millions of victims, to help us reflect on ways to prevent genocide in the future.

Members of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project encourage the college community to attend MCC's 15th annual Yom Hashoah Commemoration:

“Teaching the Next Generation: the son of a perpetrator reflects”
featuring H. Martin Rumscheidt, Ph.D.
Wednesday, May 4
College Hour (noon – 1 pm)
MCC Theater, Building 4
Free and open to the public.

Born in Luena, Germany, Dr. Rumscheidt, became a Canadian citizen in 1957 and was ordained by the United Church of Canada. An educator, author and guest lecturer, Dr. Rumscheidt acknowledges that “the Holocaust occupies my attention in theological reconstruction and the rebuilding of Jewish-Christian relations.” During the Yom Hashoah Commemoration, he will reflect on his relationship with his father, an executive of a large manufacturing company during the Third German Reich, as a catalyst to explore anti-Semitism and the Holocaust.

In addition to our guest speaker’s reflection, the event will include a moving candle lighting ceremony with Holocaust survivors.
