Ugly Warts of Grading #4 How Many Ways Can You Input Grades On Line Incorrectly?

Ugly Warts of Grading #4 How Many Ways Can You Input Grades On Line Incorrectly?

Although on line grade input is less risky than the bubble sheets, there are still things that can and do go wrong. If you check the 1G7 screen for your course after you grade you will immediately be able to see if your grades ‘took’. If they didn’t take, one of the warts below may be the culprit.

Do use the 115 screen and NOT the MAT screen to enter grades. The MAT screen is the attendance screen and will not accept grades.

Do use the correct cycle number. The cycle number is on the hard copy grade roster you will receive. There are three different cycles in operation during grading so everyone’s is not the same. I won’t know the cycle numbers until the morning the rosters are printed so they will be in the Tribune the following day. I don’t think this information is a HOLD THE PRESSES worthy announcement so we have to wait a day to get it printed.

Do input the pluses and minuses if you are giving a plus or minus grade.

Do send us notes if you need to. If you need to let us know something please send an email or note regarding students who have been withdrawn and don’t show as withdrawn etc. You can also send us your hard copy grade roster with notes on the back and the front crossed off (so we know you didn’t just forget to bubble in the grades. We WILL make fun of that.)

Do Not give students A+ or F- grades. These are not legitimate MCC grades. Check the back of your bubble sheet for a list of acceptable grades.

Do give every single person a grade. If you are not giving a student a regular grade you need to put a JJJ grade in as a place holder. If you leave the grade field blank on the 115 screen it will cause EVERYONE’s grades to sit in a holding pattern until that JJJ is filled in. That means no one is graded and it looks like you never turned in your grades.

Do Not try to give an AU (audit) or W (withdrawal). The last day to register to audit a course was January 27. The last day to withdraw was April 28. It is May now.

Do give us grades for students listed with a WI. These students are constantly in the process of getting their immunization holds released and may have done so by the time you are ready to grade them. Send me an email letting me know the grades for all the students on your 115 screen with a WI. We will give them the regular grade as soon as their WI is cleared.

Do send me an email when you have graded on line and please tell me the course number rather than, “I graded on line.” We check EVERY course that is graded on line to make sure it went through and it slows down the checking process if we have to look up which courses you taught.

Do realize that not everyone has access to grade on line. All full time faculty automatically have access. Adjunct faculty do not have access unless access is requested by their department chair prior to grading. In Banner EVERYONE will have access to grade on line (if you teach a course that is, not everyone as in the coca cola delivery guy).

Do input grades on time. Grades are due at NOON on Tuesday, May 30. Grade reports will be run the night of May 30.

Have fun on the 115 screen!
