Do Your Students Sabotage Their Own Success?

HELPING STUDENTS RECOGNIZE BELIEFS THAT INFLUENCE THEIR FAILURE…OR SUCCESS

“I study for hours but fail every test.”

“I read but I can’t remember when it comes to test time.”

“I’m always better if I wait until the last minute because I work best under pressure.”

How do you react when you hear a student utter these words? The TCC invites you to join colleagues in the first conversation of this year’s themed series, Helping Students Learn How to Learn. Meghan Glaser (ESOL/TRS) and Brian Edelbach (Chemistry/Geosciences) will, together with participants, examine common mistaken beliefs students often possess that undermine their learning as well as share tips for encouraging metacognition.

If you think that you may arrive late or would like to begin thinking about this topic before the event, please view the 6:53 minute opening video presented by Steven Chew, Ph.D. at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RH95h36NChI or search “Steven Chew video 1.”
