Commission on Higher Education Releases Preliminary Report


Governor Spitzer’s Commission on Higher Education has released its preliminary report on the New York’s higher education system. The preliminary report assesses public and private higher education and makes recommendations for strengthening it. A final report is due by June 2008.

Commission Chairman Hunter Rawlings and Executive Director John Reid will hold a web-based briefing on the contents of the preliminary report on Tuesday, December 18. There will be two sessions: 11am and 1pm. Each briefing will last no longer than one hour, including a presentation and a period of questions and answers.

Members of the public who plan to participate are asked to register by sending their contact information to registration@hecommission.state.ny.us. Those who register will be added to the Commission's listserv to receive electronic updates on the work of the Commission. Members of the public are also invited to pose questions to be answered during the sessions by e-mailing question@hecommission.state.ny.us.

The Commission also is expected to hold public hearings to gather input on the report; one hearing is planned for Rochester, but no date has yet been set.
