News from the MCC Board of Trustees Meeting

The MCC Board of Trustees held its meeting in High Falls A/B on the Downtown Campus on Monday, October 1, 2018 and took the following actions:

  1. Accepted the Interim Financial Report as of July 31, 2018.

  2. Authorized the purchase of items over $20,000 as listed for the month of July 2018.

  3. Authorized the transfer of funds totaling $54,232.

  4. Authorized the President to provide resident tuition rates for the 2018/19 academic year to students from Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands who have been displaced by either Hurricane Maria or Irma. (The full text of this resolution will appear in the meeting minutes.)

  5. Approved the appointment of Gary Graziano as the Interim Chairperson of the Engineering Technologies Department effective for the 2018 - 2019 academic year.

  6. Approved the phased-in retirement in accordance with Article 27 Section E of the contractual agreement between Monroe Community College and the Faculty Association for Nelson Cupello, Athletics, on January 1, 2019.

  7. Called on the President to establish a task force to make recommendations on the format for and scope of all College employee evaluations: faculty, classified and professional staff, non-contract administrators, and officers. The task force is to include representation from institutional governance and union partners and provide its recommendations to the Board of Trustees no later than August 31, 2019 for the Trustees' review and consideration.   8. Approved the MCC Foundation's recommendation that the Communications/Theatre Building on the Brighton Campus (Building 4) be known as the Robin and Timothy Wentworth Arts Building as of October 1, 2018.

A proposed Faculty Teaching Credentials Policy (attached) was shared for a first read.

The Board heard presentations from

  • Associate Professor of Spanish, World Languages and Cultures Marisol Galarza-Ruiz on Service Learning Seminar and Puerto Rico Trip;
  • Chair of the MCC Foundation Board of Directors Lauren Dixon on Foundation activities;
  • Provost and Vice President, Academic Services Andrea Wade on Strategic Plan Direction One: Learning First;
  • President Anne Kress on college activities; and
  • Shared Governance groups (Amanda Colosimo for Faculty Senate; Bernard Butler for the Student Government Association; Kimberly Staat for the Student Events and Governance Association).
