Feb 13: Creativity and the Creative Process as Stress Management for Women

Ever wondered how “those women” seem to do it all? They work. They have families. They work out. They can intelligently discuss the latest episode of Grey’s Anatomy. And . . . they always seem to have a craft project going. For many, the crafts are an important aspect of handling stress.

Learn more about this at the American Association for Women in Community College (AAWCC) sponsored seminar and expo on Tuesday, February 13, 2:30-4 pm in the Warshof Conference Center, Flynn Campus Center (Monroe A & B). Our featured speaker is Karen Cardillo, RN, MS, HSMI, professor, Health and Physical Education.

“The whole process of these crafts is very meditative for me,” says Anne Flatley. “The Irish knots are mathematical repetitions in my head. One part of my brain is counting, ‘Purl 2, knit one, purl 3, knit one, etc.’ So I feel as though I get to use my analytical mind at the same time as using my artistic mind. How much better than that can it get?”

The Creativity Expo features demonstrations and hands-on projects:

* Pam Korte: needle work and scrap booking

* Ervina Malin: rug hooking

* Anne Flatley: knitting with boiled wool and braided fleece rug

* Terri Plumart: jewelry

* Anne Perry: cooking/baking – cookie decorating

* Suzanne El Rayess: photography

* Betsy Ripton: knitting

* Sandy Warren: ceramics – possibly needlepoint

* Marianne Dorsey: lampwork beads
