Gold Star Gala Nets $45, 000 for MCC Students

Over $45,000 was netted by the MCC Foundation at its fifth annual Gold Star Gala at Monroe Golf Club on April 26, 2003. Volunteer and donor participation resulted in new records for event underwriting, auction participation and overall fundraising totals. The funds will be used to support student scholarships and faculty enrichment programs.

The award-winning event featured silent and live auctions. MCC Foundation Board of Directors and members of the college's faculty and staff donated 65 goods and services, based on their personal skills and interests, to support the event. Items included original artwork, sport outings, culinary delights, gardening services and sailing cruises. Donors also established 12 new student scholarships for the 2003-2004 academic year at the event.

Tina Sawyer, a student at both MCC and Rochester Institute of Technology, credited MCC Foundation supporters for "giving students the opportunity to succeed" at MCC through flexible course scheduling. Sawyer, who has maintained a 4.0 grade point average at both institutions, also noted, "It is because of you that this is working."

Underwriting for the event totaled over $23,000, more than doubling last year's total. Gold Star sponsors included The DiMarco Group, Excellus/BlueCross BlueShield and HSBC. Table sponsors included Buckingham Properties, Kennedy Mechanical, Inc., Konar Properties, LeChase Companies, Morgan Stanley, The Pike Company and SCT.

The honorary chair of the event was John L. DiMarco, The DiMarco Group. Jose J. Coronas, general partner, Trillium Group and director, MCC Foundation, served as master of ceremonies. Arnold Klinsky, vice president and general manager 10 NBC and vice chair, MCC Foundation, served as auctioneer for the evening.

"The money raised at the Gala is money well spent," said DiMarco. "When you help deserving people earn an education, all of our lives are a little better for it."
