MCC Community Emergency Response Team Seeks New Volunteers

Are You Ready for an Emergency?
In an emergency, whether resulting from severe weather, natural disaster, or an emergency of any kind, MCC Public Safety and additional community emergency response agencies will be the first to respond and the first line of defense.

During and after a significant event, first responders who provide emergency services often times are not able to meet the demands placed upon them. Factors like the number of victims, communication failures and the severity of infrastructure damage may prevent people from accessing the type of services they've come to expect from first responder agencies and MCC Public Safety. People will have to rely on each other for help to meet their immediate needs until additional emergency responders can reach them.

Our Mission

The mission of the MCC Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is to harness the power of every team member through education and training to make our college community safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to severe weather related threats, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds.

During a disaster, the number and scope of incidents can overwhelm conventional emergency services. The goal of the MCC CERT team is to respond as a team to assist first responders and service the immediate needs of the college community when emergency services are not available. Additionally, MCC CERT will provide continuity of operations services to assist in restoring college operations in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.

How can I join?

MCC Public Safety Department and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) will provide the training, leadership, and guidance required to be a valued and productive member of MCC CERT. All that’s needed from you is the desire to learn, serve, and participate. After successful completion of the FEMA CERT introductory training program, basic CERT safety equipment is issued to each successful participant and the new member is authorized to participate in additional training and MCC CERT Team activities such as being activated to participate in an emergency response mission.
