April is National Volunteer Month. In celebration, the MCC Daily Tribune will feature the individual answers of more than 20 faculty and staff members to the question “ Why Do I Volunteer?”
I volunteer for those causes and organizations that have missions I strongly support. I tend to volunteer for social justice groups that serve the needs of the underprivileged. Those organizations can only "practice what I teach" because of the work of their volunteers. I teach sociology, so my volunteer work has a clear link to my academic interests and work.
I primarily volunteer because I am unable to give as much money to organizations as I used to, but I can always give my time.
