March Events in the Library

The LeRoy V. Good Library (Brighton Campus) has several events planned for the month of March, including two lectures and a book discussion group. We hope that you will join us for one or all of the following events!

The first lecture will be held Friday, March 10, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, on the 4th floor of the library. Kevin White, a member of the Akwesasne Mohawk nation and an MCC alumnus, is a professor of Native American Studies at SUNY Oswego. He is a PhD candidate at the University of Buffalo’s American Studies Department and the Center for the Americas. His dissertation focuses on Native American narrative, especially as it pertains to the Haudenosaunee Creation Story. Mr. White will be speaking on “Understanding the Creation Story of the Iroquois.”

The second lecture will be held Wednesday, March 22, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, on the 4th floor of the Library. Perry Ground, a Turtle Clan member of the Onondaga Nation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, is the Project Director of the Native American Resource Center of Rochester. He has also taught classes at Syracuse and Cornell Universities and has worked at several museums, including the Ganondagan State Historic Site. Mr. Ground’s lecture, “Storytelling in the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Tradition: The World on Turtles' Back and Other Native American Stories,” will address the art of Native American storytelling while he shares several traditional Native American stories in his unique style.

On Monday, March 20, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, in room 2-440, the Library will be hosting a book discussion on the If All of Rochester Read the Same Book choice, Name All the Animals by Alison Smith, prior to the author’s March 31 visit to our campus (sponsored by the Campus Activities Board, English/Philosophy Department and Writers & Books).
