Judith VanBrunt Ryan, MCC Retiree


The college was informed of the passing of Judith VanBrunt Ryan (Health Professions/Dental Studies) on May 8, 2015.

Judith earned an associate degree from Broome Technical Community College’s School of Dental Hygiene and worked as a dental hygienist before transferring to Boston University to pursue a bachelor’s degree in health education. She joined MCC as a dental hygiene instructor in 1966. In 1982, she earned a master of science degree in education from Nazareth College.

While at MCC, Judith helped develop auto-tutorial materials for the Department of Dental Hygiene. She served on the department’s Continuing Education Committee, and was a member of the New York State Dental Hygiene Educators’ Association and the Rochester District Dental Hygienists’ Association. She was also the faculty advisor to MCC’s Junior American Dental Hygienists’ Association chapter. She retired as an assistant professor in 1988.

She was predeceased by her husband, William, and step-daughter, Nancy. She is survived by her step-daughters, including Linda Hickey (Financial Aid), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Judith relocated from Rochester to Ocala, Fla. in 1990. She will be buried at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
