Quotes That Inspire

On the First Friday of May, it's once again my turn to share an inspiring quote.

"With the new day comes new strength and new thoughts." -- Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), First Lady of New York, First Lady of the United States, First Chair of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights

When Sister Elizabeth assigned my 8th grade class to research a historical figure, I turned to my grandmother for ideas. A resident of upstate New York, my grandmother recommended I research Eleanor Roosevelt. Our former first lady has been a role model for me ever since.

This particular quote comes to mind as we enter the month of May. We have been through a particularly difficult March and April. As I seek a routine in this unfamiliar terrain of remote telework, I find solace in the cycles of nature that persist in spite of this virus. The daffodils are blooming. The flowering trees are beginning to bud. Each new day has more daylight than the last and does indeed bring new strength and thoughts despite the virus that has turned our world upside down.

I encourage you to recognize the strength that is within you. You have faced this challenge and continue to advance the work of MCC. You have lived through these difficult times and are here to welcome a new day, a new month, and a new season.

While there remains much uncertainty in our world, I hope you will join me in welcoming this new day. As you embrace it, reflect on what new thought it carries on its wings.

Your quote and accompanying narrative about why the quote resonates for you are welcomed. Submit your quotes to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes that Inspire" are featured on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
