Summer Construction Projects

This past summer was another busy one for Facilities. In addition to general repairs, deferred maintenance, custodial projects, and more, the team completed a number of successful construction and capital improvement projects. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Like Building 11 last summer, the white brick facade on Building 12 was replaced with brick more aligned with the campus standard. This intense masonry work concerned a lot more than aesthetics. The original facades on both buildings were in a state of disrepair. Behind the white bricks were leaks, missing insulation, and failed structural components. Both buildings are now safer, watertight, and more energy efficient.
  • Some of the interior spaces in Building 12 were refreshed as well this summer. New carpet was installed in all of the classrooms and some public spaces. Facilities is also in the process of upgrading the light fixtures in the classrooms to LED.
  • The first floor of Building 7 received a major upgrade this summer. Facilities oversaw the design and construction of new science labs, support spaces, and major improvements to the main corridor. The first floor of Building 7 is now sprinklered as well. There are still a few items to wrap up in the next few weeks. Please pardon our dust as we do our best to finish up this complex renovation.
  • The Board Lounge received a major upgrade this summer. An in-house Facilities construction team, in collaboration with CNS and Instructional Services, completed the project through the month of July. There is new furniture, a new tray ceiling and lights, new videoconferencing equipment, room darkening shades, and more.
  • Similarly, a new conference room was constructed for Human Resources. An in-house crew transformed an open space in the Chief Diversity Officer's suite into a state of the art conference room. The technology will allow for better long-distance interviews through the advanced audio and video conferencing equipment.
  • The roof of the Richard M. Guon Child Care Center was replaced in July.
  • The Brick Lounge flooring was replaced.
  • The parking lot serving the Applied Technology Center was resurfaced.
  • The tennis courts were removed.
  • Miscellaneous repairs in the parking lots and roads took place on the Brighton campus. A number of compromised catch basins were repaired, parking lots were crack sealed, and a few crosswalks were restriped.
  • The carpet was replaced at the entrance to the Library on the 2nd floor of Building 2.
  • A skyline sign that is visible from I-490 and beyond was installed on the Plymouth Avenue side of the Downtown Campus.
  • Signage was installed on Administration Building 1 to acknowledge and display the name of past MCC President Peter A. Spina.
