Reminder: Diversity Book Discussion Group

The MCC Libraries and the Diversity Interest Group (of the Diversity Council), as cosponsors of the Diversity Book Discussion Group, are pleased to announce the book discussion choice for this semester: First Person, First Peoples, edited by Andrew Garrod and Colleen Larimore.

According to the publisher’s description, “…[F]inding that elusive balance between tribal values and the demands of campus life is a recurring theme in this landmark collection of personal essays. Navajo or Choctaw, Tlingit or Sioux, each of the essayists (all graduates of Dartmouth College) gives a heartfelt account of struggle and adjustment. The result is a compelling portrait of the anguish Native American students feel justifying the existence of their own cultures not only to other students but also throughout the predominantly white institutions they have joined.”

We will be meeting this Friday, April 28, to discuss chapters 7-13 of the book. The meeting will be held during College Hour (12:00 to 1:00 pm) in room 2-440 (fourth floor of the LeRoy V. Good Library). You are free to bring your lunch. Please join us even if you didn't have a chance to attend the first meeting, in which we discussed chapters 1-6.
